Bugger, should have seen this before as it can be the rotor arm cracking up but seeing as you've replaced all that then should be good now, the mayo is common in the carb but isn't necessarily an issue |

Well, plugs, leads, dizzy and rotar arm were all near the end of their life!
It has improved, but still hesitates occasionally, bit juddery here and there.
Next up, I guess is playing with the carb? Though maybe a weber upgrade should be done. _________________

i had a simlilar problem on a previous car and found it to be a gasket gone that was letting in air, also have you tried the inlet manifold gasket? _________________ a dying breed always needs saviours, we are astra saviours, simple as that. |

There is a list of things that ideally need doing! Just need to build up a little money, and hope to find some help! _________________

Update : still running pretty rubbish!
Have done a comp test, each cylinder showing between 11 and 12 bar so no problems there.
Spark plugs are still nice and clean
Yesterday I thought I'd treat her and put some super in (by accident ), then noticed a bottle of redex in the shop so chucked some of that in the tank. drove really nicely on way home! real strong idle..
where as this morning, was shiiiiiiiiiit again. _________________

Weeeeeeeeell, even worse. Occasional miss fires, a continual judder loss of power, though sometimes it's happy revving all the way...
Have checked for air leaks...sprayed a load of carb cleaner around the carb and inlet manifold, no change in engine idle which means no air leak right?
Heeeeeeeeeeeelllllppppppp. Short of giving her to a garage and having them clean carb through/check jets I've no idea how to proceed. _________________

Well I barely made it to work, so I'm going to attemp a fast one on the AA, going to call then a couple hours before home time, and tell them I attempted to go out for lunch and it was shagged _________________

Well my yearly subscription to The AA just paid off, the guy rebuilt the distributor, cleaned and regapped the points and its running like a dream now, if a slightly fast idle.
Will turn a certain screw down a half in a moment see what it's like then. _________________

No one mentioned the vacuum advance in all this conversation. I had similar symptoms on mine a few years ago and just had to replace the little air pump.
Thinking of an Isuzu conversion myself until I blew the head gasket in the Mazda 323 doner car.
I have a 2000 Astra 1.7 Diesel. Is that the same engine does anyone know. _________________ SpaceKadett wrapped in fibreglass. |

Yeah it is running sweet, but now it burns sh$t loads of oil!!! Puff on startup, and when accelerating so not as sweet as I hoped!
I guess piston rings?
The 1.7 izuzu, featured in cavaliers, astras, corsas I believe. It's normally identified because the air box says turbo? _________________

Try the egr valve take it off & get some carb cleaner on it & in the area it sits too. _________________
