Does anyone understand how they work?
For instance, what is a category C, D etc?

In short...
A = Should be crushed immediately.
B = Can be used for parts only.
C = Uneconomical Repair. Has to be inspected or re-registered as damaged repaired to be put back on road.
D = Uneconomical Repair. Has to be re-registered as damaged repaired.
F = Fire damage.

Thanks for that.
So a cat D car can be repaired and put back on the road but doesn't need to be inspected yes? Does that mean then that a cat D isn't 'too badly' damaged?
How do they re-issue the V5, don't they need any evidence that it's been repaired?
My question refers to a car that would normally be worth around £2500, this is a summary of the damage:
Quote: | I have a P reg S14 with some front end damage.
Requires bonet, bumper, possibly headlight (doesn't look damaged) and wing. I will supply the bonet and wing for free. You will need to find a bumper. The slam panel is slightly kinked, but can probably be bent back OK.
I've driven the car up to 70mph and you'd never know it has been crashed. |

I always thought D was just uneconomical repair, but superficial ( i.e. panels need replacing ), I guess if the DVLA have been informed they will re-issue a V5 on receipt of a MOT for the car ? not sure.
200sx eh ? some say underrated, some say they're rubbish.. looks worth a try on paper though. They were never all that expensive so by the time you've bought panels to repair it might be just as cheap to buy a non bent one ? just a thought. |
