wouldn`t matter much if the mot and tax are out and by the looks of that the tax is out so it may be a wreck by now hence the plate couldn`t be transferred without tax and mot.

is it on a vauxhall then?

no-one will give you the drivers details, you need to find a very very very friendly policeman/woman to do a check for you.

Jason

To be honest my friend I'm fairly sure that DVLA kept the name plates back and sold them at auctions to raise cash. I very much dout that that particular car was registered with that number and the owner probably bought it separate. Anyway you are not going to get it for less than 8-9 grand. As it happens its for sale at the moment, see the link below. Sorry to bring you the bad news Crying or Very sad

I'll bet Newreg.com don't own half of them plates on there dude...it's called advanced marketing, they generate interest and then sell you the plate buy buying it after they know they have a buyer for it.

I see the same plates for sale at these companies for a few hundered more than they are advertised on the DVLA website..

Write to the DVLA's 'fee paying enquiries' team (address on their site), enclosing a cheque for £5 and with a good reason for wanting the information - e.g the car used to belong to a close friend/relative and you'd like to approah the owner with a view to being reunited with it for old times' sake, or whatever.

I've done this for nearly every car I've had (but that's the difference - I've owned them) and they send you photocopies of every document they hold for the car since new.

Or...find that friendly copper/insurance company employee who is willing to tell you what's on their databases!
