Just a general question but how does the Vauxhall Heritage Centre keep their cars on the road.
I know they don't rap them up in cotton wool so when a part breaks or wears out do they re-manufacture it.
Are therefore all parts available (at a price).
Just a wishful thought perhaps. |

I think they just buy the best examples they can find and then use their contacts / scour round the old boxes in the factory to fix bits.
to be fair, anythings available at a price, it's just finding someone to make them. _________________

oh right I was thinking they took selected cars straight off the production line and then into the heritage centre. |

Some they might have done.
But alot of their cars they have purchased over the years, just took them time to find the right examples _________________

They sold a lot of there heritage fleet off over the years then realised they had made a mistake, hence having to buy the mk1 gte a few years back. When myself and some friends went for a private viewing at the heritage centre last year, we got the impression that they were winding down the collection. They didn't have many peeps looking after them and was bit of a ghost town _________________ There's no such thing as a stupid question... Just stupid people! |

When GM USA went tits up, Vauxhall were told to cut ALL unnecessary costs, this was the reason they started selling the collection.
Cut all our Vauxhall bonuses and perks as well
Then US got bailed out and everything went back to normal (well not really UK side).
The heritage centre is run by volunteers from the Luton site, less help out every year as over time the old boys leave. Will defo end up either closed or outside source taking over in the future. Im amazed VBOA havn't taken it over or something.
Also the centre used to buy up huge amounts of old stock from all over Europe as I used to source quite a bit for them, does get harder over the years. Vauxhall won't pay for one offs to be made, they just have vehicles sitting there waiting to be build till they eventually find what they want. _________________ WANTED - Big Block Legs, GTE Engine Mounts |
