DO NOT DO ANY OF THE ABOVE!!!
when you lose data you are probably best off going to a specialist, search the net for data recovery experts in your area... thats all i can suggest, but do not I REPEAT do NOT touch that disk by yourself without a qualified expert... |

That windows recovery doesn't touch personal files as far as im aware mate, so running it ain't gonna help!
System restore takes snapshots of system files at regular intervals in case of corruption, loss, or whatever. I've never relied on it to get me outa trouble, and i turn it off.
The disk clean up wizard ONLY touches system files mate, so it can't have deleted them...the only reason it would have touched them is if you had selected the 'compress files' (and select from a range) say 30 days...it would then compress all files that are data stamped older than 30 days, or from when last modified.
The only thing i can think to do is search for your files first, using * as a wildcard; i.e. *.doc, *.xls, *.gif, *.jpg etc etc and see if you can find them, make sure you change the settings to search hidden files and the complete HD. (the root of C: or whatever is your system disk. (you never know..?? )
Are you sure you haven't logged on a different profile? as each profile has a different 'my docs' folder used to organise files...check this mate, as im hoping you're just being ginger
if that doesn't work then try some recovery software...something like 'Get data back' 'Ontrack Easy Recovery' or 'R-Studio'. Windows, if it has deleted them wouldn't have written over the data, all it does it arrange with the file allocation table to write over the blocks again, for it to delete data it would have to write a series of 0's and 1's over the blocks and windows doesn't do this so you should be able to recover some if not all of the data, if its in a usable state still is another matter, but there isn't any harm in trying...You want to recover the data, if you can to another HD, or to a separate partition so you can (if need be format if data is corrupt)
You could take your HD to a data recovery company, BUT this is VERY expensive, last time i checked i think it wa about 100 pound for 1Mb but the prices have probably come down a bit now as this was years ago. Either way, it will probably cost more than its worth to recover
Really hope you can sort this out mate, good luck and let us know how you get on.

Edit: P.S. Next time make sure you make back ups, your laptop must have either a cd or dvd writer drive surely? _________________ Nurburgring - Not for girls |

That's it Jacko kick him whilst he's down
I did a similar thing Ed, I lost all my family pictures, my docs and some of my finest porn because a hard drive crashed on me.
What you have done using disk clean up should not have touched any other file other than the temp systems files, windows install files etc...
I feel sure that the data is there somewhere. Good luck.
Oh and to recover 30mb of data in a clean room in London was going to cost me £500 So if all else fails, you are going to have to do some soul searching. _________________ The most hip hop mofo to ever come out of Halifax.....Jam Master Jay in d house!!! |
