took gte out for a quick run today and as i was going it lost power never stalled but even when i changed down gears it never came back to life then when i was at about 25mph it came back to life and didnt lose power again. it has done it before so i put new plugs,leads,dizzy cap,fuel filter.its standard 1.8 anybody have any idea`s on what could be faulty? Confused

Check the inlet pipe for splits, they have been known to split and draw air on the wrong side of the air flow meter and the car cannot compensate for it as it is no longer being metered.

i`ve checked that and there`s no splits, could it be fuel pump????

Possible the final stage amplifier on the coil breaking down under load, its the item with the plug coming out of it coming from the bottom of the distributor to the coil if memory serves me right.

Neither, the final stage amp. They're around £30 for an aftermarket one.

This is a CX20E one don't know if its any good for a 1.8.

Did you replace the rotor arm? If not, do it, worth a try

after looking more closer found its over fueling smell fuel in oil,plugs black how can i sort it.would this final stage amp make it over fuel if faulty?
