So why did every one choose a mk1 Astra. I was personally looking for a classic car to do up and had a list of cars and the Astra came up at a good price. I love the looks and have owned mk2s and a mk3 so I knew it would be fun to drive, but parts arnt as easy to get as they are say escorts or minis. This just made me wonder why everyone else opted for the MK1 Astra. |

My first legal car was a mk1 so that i think is one reason ,besides that i couldnt honestly say . The look / shape , the way they feel when you drive em and the fact they are getting rarer makes them even more appealing . |

I had a Yellow 1300s for my first car and thats where the love affair started. My friend found it for me and as soon as i sat in the Recaro's i was hooked. The 1300 was a good "nippy" engine but the best bit was not just beating faster and more expensive cars but annihilating them down twisty B roads with the handling. It just didn't seem possible that this 18 year old rough banana could do such a thing.
Moved on to a GTE now which is undergoing a little work at the moment, but soon i'll have more speeding fines than i can shake a cheque book at. |

My first car was a 5dr 1600GL which I put a GTE interior in. When racing other people I'd leave them standing, then I bought my first GTE which had character (re broke down a fair amount), performance (was the quickest thing about at the time) and looks (it looks mean, even scared a friend of mine which was bizarre as she was so hard most of the guys wouldn't p@#s her off)
I still have that GTE as it happens |
