Just sat on side of road waiting for the aa after having a great day at the St Asaph show. Think the bottom end has gone. Sounds fine when driving but rattles like a bastard when foot off pedal or stationary. HHHHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPP

It was an independant truck. Just took us home. I asked if he wanted to hear the noise. He said no. Its an old astra. Its knackered the nob.
Anyway im back home and the strip down has started. Think its the little ends gone. Gonna replace everything we touch. Valve stems etc |

Bummer! Might be worth just finding a new bottom end price wise. |

That's nnnniiiicccceeee......
Update on the old girl. There is play in the top and bottom bearings so she is coming to pieces. Pretty much a full rebuild. Gonna paint all the block and bits that I can. Need to get a full engine gasket kit so if anyone knows where I can get one let me know?
She's currently sat on axle stands on my drive with half the bottom end hanging out.
Pretty gutted to be honest as there's a show at Weston park next Sunday that I've took a car to for the last six years and would of been the first show with my two year old son who is CRAZY about the mk1.
But......... It needs doing and there's no point crying over spilt milk. Just got to get on with it. But at least I will have a strong engine when I've finished. |

Dyl. Don't think it's the belt. Still ticks over and runs fine. Just the noise

The listing says it will suit 13N or 13S. I think its a different cam in the S that makes the difference. The gasket set will be the same for both. tbh £9 delivered its worth a punt.
Just having a look through haynes manual page 20 if you got one. the only difference I can see is the camshaft.
Its that that gives the 1.3S high Compression and 1.3 Low compression
But i'm sure someone will be along shortly to confirm this or piss on my chips |
