1) Beat the piss out of the track rod ball-joint (the steering rack ends) and remove
2) Beat the piss out of the lower ball-joint and remove nut
3) Disconnect the brake pipe either at the calliper or the rubber to metal connector
4) Undo two 10mm nuts in the strut
5) put foot on lower arm as you pull the strut off it's lower ball-joint

6) be surprised how heave the damn thing is!

I'll do a more detailed one later Smile

One of these will come in handy:

or I used one of these:

Polybushes on - these weren't exactly a walk in the park to install either.

All wrapped up safe in bed for now:

Bedtime for Gilfy for the Winter.

Took the new suspension over, zinc'd a few bare metal bits and put a nice new tarp over him because the fecking unit roof leaks into the new floor I put in mad

Almost looks like a car again:

Night-night Gilfy - NO RUSTING WHILE I'M AWAY!

So, been a while since I last last updated.

I haven't done any more work but I now have a nice big garage at home so to save the money on the unit, Gilfy's coming home!

As the front inner wings aren't fully welded in yet, I thought we would be able to wheel barrow it onto our trailer but it was a bit too heavy. So I bit the bullet and refitted the sparkly new suspension so that we could wheel Gilfy around on his wheels.

Anyway some pics Smile

What I was REALLY pleased about is the panel gap and the door fit now that he's sat on his wheels for the first time rather than the chassis mounts.

Now I just need to hire a van to move all the associated crap from the unit to home.

IT was meant to be a three month project but this thread started in August 2011!

Whoops.

I'm restoring a RS1600i that makes your GTE look like a walk in the park Shocked
