Ok I have a 01 1.7dti Astra van
It's always had a slight hint of oil in the head tank, but it doesn't seem to get any worse, so I put it down to the oil cooler having gone at some point as it looks new and shiney.
However it's started using a fair bit of water, I can't see any obvious leaks and there is no mayo in the oil or water.
But it does appear that the oil lever has gone up so clearly this is where the water has gone, but I can't work out why it hasn't mixed and gone sludgy?
Could it be the oil cooler has gone again or its time for a head gasket? _________________

them engines are prone to head gaskets in most cases you have to fit a brand new head because i was told they cant be skimmed.
there was one done at my work years ago (not by me) and they fitted a new head, it was like £600! _________________ [Click here to pay ransom to view photos] |

Yea i've heard they have compression issues if they skim them, I cant see that it would need a skim anyway, has never even got up to fan temp let alone over heated.
I'll take it to work and run the cmm over it, should tell me if it's flat down to microns lol
just cant work out how the oil and water havnt mayo'd _________________
