|
|
Thinking of getting this welder, been trawling the Internet trying to work out which to get!
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/mig160tm-welder
What do you guys think?
Any suggestions on what else I should get? Wire, gas, mask, etc. _________________ 4x4 Turbo MK1 Astra - may actually be finished this year!

Tempted to go for the second one, as I'm short on space. It can be adapted to use gas if I want. _________________ 4x4 Turbo MK1 Astra - may actually be finished this year!

It does both mate, so surely that's OK? _________________ 4x4 Turbo MK1 Astra - may actually be finished this year!

You need to fart arse around to switch over.
+ and - need swapped etc, tip needs changing as gas-less wire is thicker.
I would imagine all welders can do gas-less? _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."

Needs a 15amp supply, you got one of those!
Mine works off normal 13amp socket - I've even used it with a crappy extension lead.
Why do you need a welder? _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."

You definitely need to buy a turbo (fan assisted) gas MIG. Fluxed wire spits like a chav drinking tenants super strength. Its ok but don't expect the same quality of weld.
Argon/Co2 mix is lovely stuff.
That first one looked fine. |

The first one (the MIG160TM) says the following...
Quote: | A 13 Amp (BS1363) plug is not suitable for this device. |
So perhaps that's not a good choice after all?? _________________ 4x4 Turbo MK1 Astra - may actually be finished this year!

|
|
I'm a mobile welder, and have a few mig and stick sets, I do alot of vehicle welding, I use a large mug set and generator a lot, but I do carry a small Clarke welder in the back of the van for small twenty minute patchs, I have a Clarke 135te, it's a red one, only use with gas and wire. As the gas less stuff is rubish, I have fitted wings and roof gutters, and even big chassis repairs with that Clarke, gas and wire is £20 (15 for gas & 6 for the wire), ideal to start out with, and it's all down to practice, good luck with your purchase.
