The first two letter on the old italian plates identify the city (CT is Catania), and I don't know why it change sides! |

No, I want to be sure that I have everything I need to do it.
I'm looking the old thread in this forum to search any info about this swap |

What engine is that? If its an S model the gearbox might be worth a lot of money in the UK! Worth checking the ratio. I can tell you how to check if you want? |

An S model had slightly more BHP (PS).
As for the gearbox.
this is how to check... remove the gear selector from the top of the g/box. when you look inside to the opposite side of the bell housing that's your first gear.. when you look 1 closer to bell/h it should be straight cut teeth (that's your reverse gear) ..its the next 1 closer t the bell/h. count the number of teeth on both cogs that run with each other. there should be 35 teeth on one and 16 teeth on the other. . |

Engine is in place!
I'm so happy that is very simple job!
Also fuel tank is in, I got an Mk3 1.4 petrol tank and change the fuel pump for the one from Cally Turbo.
I got the equal leight driveshaft from Calibra 16v but now the main problem
is what leg I must use!
I bought from junk yard a pair from a Astra Mk3 1.8 station wagon (estate) but can't fit it with mk1 springs (I have parallel springs -80mm)
I try to fit the entire suspension of MK3 but the turret is different, serching on the forum for this topic and I see many posts but haven't found a solution or a step by step guide.
Someone say to open the hole in the turret, but other say that mk3 top is too tall and touch the bonnet...I don't know _________________

use the whole mk3 leg and make the hole in the car bigger for the top bearing to poke through
swap steering arms over from side to side so the point opposite way up (don't rotate the ball joint as there built with an offset) _________________ 1983 5dr project 1.4Ti in china blue

I use the leg from mk3 and top of mk1!
This seems to work!
I rotate the ball joint upside down. What's wrong with this?
Now I'm waiting some bits to continue the project... _________________

If you look at the ballpoint you will see the ball is set towards the front, if you turn it over it will be off set to the rear! Vaux did this for a reason so swapping the arms from side to side keeps this correct _________________ 1983 5dr project 1.4Ti in china blue
