I live on an old RAF base which closed down 50 years ago. Today marked the anniversary of the closure (albeit in February) and the town and some of the ex airmen who served here) marked the occasion. Not forgetting that the youngest ones would be bout 70. There was a church service, a march through the high street and down to the castle grounds, then a bit of a do there, followed this evening up on the grounds of the old base for a quick ceremony.
I have sat in on all the meetings planning this for nearly a year now and Im really happy that today was a success.
RAF Bridgnorth was the first air base in the U.K to be granted "freedom of entry to a town. They were granted this to Bridgnorth in 1951. The original film can be seen here http://bps.britishpathe.com/hls-vod/flash/00000000/00047000/00047679.mp4.m3u8
I only managed to grab a quick video of the parade passing us which is currently uploading.
I'm not really sure why I've posted this on here. I suppose Im just really proud of our old airmen and the job that everyone has done today to make it a day to remember |

Click on the above for video. It's a far cry from the 3400 that did it in 1949 |
