I gotta ask the same question I asked on another thread... Are you 100% it's a GTE? Did the front panel look like it had been replaced when you took it off? _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."

I'm sorry but I'd take off every bit of trim etc and scrap that.
Will you be building a jig to try and keep it all aligned when you cut it to bits to repair it? |

Looks a bit like the white GTE I've got stored for when I have finished my other MK1... probably end up doing it in retirement!
As it's so rotten, I would suggest getting it dipped and then repairing it and then dipping it again to protect it. Otherwise you'll spend all that time and the rust will just come back again.
Take a look at this

But defo give it a go!! Anything can be repaired... _________________ 4x4 Turbo MK1 Astra - may actually be finished this year!

Just a warning about surface processing - I've nothing but bad stories about them damaging shells. Also, they used to use the facilities of LDV - the London black cabs. They've now gone as the black cabs are now made in china or somewhere.
This means surface processing (or so I was told) no longer have full-size dipping facilities and have to put the car in sideways. I was reading about a guy who had his car dipped there and they drilled a hole in his new quarter panel to let the air out!
This is what I have read anyway.
I got a quote from these guys which seemed reasonable but i'm buggered if I can find the email now: http://www.envirostripukltd.com/ _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."

I have to state, I've never used them or known anyone to. But I like the idea of the process and it's something I would consider for a new project. _________________ 4x4 Turbo MK1 Astra - may actually be finished this year!

Yeah me too if funds allowed - also worth bearing in mind that if you have it dipped, you really need to have the dipped e-coat too otherwise you'll never get paint on the hidden areas that were paint stripped like boxed chassis sections etc... _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."

i think its worth doing as its a genuine gte, and as for putting it on a jig i dont think that will be nessary if i do it in stages and dont go hacking away all in one go

I've got the measurements somewhere as I have them printed out at the unit. I'll find them tomorrow. _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."
