The rebuild is going well. I need to order one bolt that holds the steering rack on as it was threaded and I missed it when taking it off and 8 new oil stem seals as I knocked them on before fitting the valve seats. Tit!

It seams the only way of getting them off if they are new is to destroy them.

I've cleaned and lapped all the valves back into the seats and they seal perfectly now. No Leaks.

The old oil pump didn't sound all that clever so i'm glad I got a new one.
The subframe is really heavy when your on your own!

The underneath of the engine is almost complete so hopefully when the last of the parts turn up I can get her on the road in the next two weeks ready for some holidays.

Well this is fun. The car is back together and running but now has a very loud hydraulic lifter tap. I've only ran it up to temperature once so it may clear after a few cycles but does anyone know a cause or a cure for this.

Buying new lifters is one idea but that's about 150 quid so any advice would be welcomed!

Thank you.

Edit: f**king Car!!!

Ok, i've removed the hydraulic lifters and some of them have wear marks on now. Before they were all fine. The Cam lobes have what is best described as a finger print pattern on them.

All the valves push into the head and are not stuck.
Could the lifters be getting stuck on the walls of the lifter housing?

Its a pretty loud tapping, dare I say knock. But it seems to be coming from the top of the engine.

It only makes the tapping noise when its running. I can turn it over on the starter and it doesn't tap.

It has loads of oil pressure the stuff it squirting everywhere.

Any ideas?

Did you moly the cam when you put it back together?

Or turn it over with no plugs in to build oil pressure before starting!

All the moving parts were covered in oil on reassembly. I poured oil over the cams before refitting the rocker cover too.

Well, I thought i'd share some pictures of my rebuild. It not all gone according to plan but what does!

A dirty valve with 130k miles of crap on it and one I cleaned up.

Lapping the valves in.

Half the engine all over the garage but its actually in an order of sorts.

I needed to lock the engine as the screw driver kept falling out of the flywheel opening.

The pistons all cleaned up and ready for the head.

I've ordered 16 more of lease little buggers as I think they bit the bullet when the oil pressure dropped as this one has been whacked a fair few times.

Well thats the end of that. It went pop. Snapped a rod and mangled the crank. Breaking it for spares now. Sad

Hopefully going to buy another Kadett D but a low spec model as this modern turbo stuff is expensive as a daily. Found a nice pistachio green model. Waiting for a reply.

I can't 100% say what exactly went wrong but it may of been a valve problem. It whacked the valve, bend the valve and broke the rod in half.

What can I say. I'm a glutten for punishment. I've began rebuilding the engine again. I bought a new one from the UK and started to strip down and rebuild with all new parts. Still no idea why it went pop but as its completely new now I can't see it having to many problems. Wish me luck.
