How to wire in a XE/LET from a cavalier/calibra into any car

When you remove the loom from the donor car do not cut any connectors on the loom side, cut the wires from the part that goes to the car so hove both sides of the wiring loom to make it easier, when removing a LET loom the reverse gear switch is plugged into the engine loom then it goes to the reverse switch.

As for the alternator/starter loom, undo the big round X5 plug by the battery and remove any wires going to the battery and contain the loom out the way, when it comes to be refitted this loom will not be used, it just makes it easier to remove the engine.
Once the engine is removed remove the starter/alternator loom from the engine and discard, in place of this you use the starter/alt loom from the car its going into, so on a nova there will have to be connected when it back in the car, but for likes of a mk3 astra/cav/cally remove the loom by the X5 plug from the car the engine is going onto and connect it up to the engine in the same way as the previous starter/alternator loom, this makes it loads easier to connect up and saves any re-wiring issues.

As for the engine loom itself, on the under the bonnet part of the loom there are only 2 wires that need connecting, the big thick red wire with a ring terminal goes to the battery +ve and there is also a single black wire near the distributor area, this needs connecting to a switched 12v +ve, this is the main switched live for the ecu, without this connected the engine wont work, in the footwell there are 3 connectors (depending on what car the engine was removed from) you need to find 5 wires, blue, thick red/blue, green, brown/yellow and brown blue, all you have to do is find the like for like colours and join them together and this will get the engine running and the ecu light working too.

When fitting into a mk3 Astra, on the starter/alt loom there is a 2 pin plug with a red wire and a black wire, the back wire can be used as the switched live for the ecu, the red wire can be cut and taped out the way.

The reverse plug setup on the LET also needs connecting, find the reverse switch plug on the starter/alt loom, it’s a 2 pin plug and now find the connector on the LET loom, its usually just after the injector loom box section, put the reverse switch plug from the starter/alt loom in to the let loom, then find the 2 pin plug from the LET loom and plug it into the gearbox switch, there are 2 connectors with 2 pins in them, but one is shorter that the other, the short one is the reverse switch on the top of the box just by the clutch cable, the long is the first gear switch which is on the front bottom of the F28, if using a 5 speed box bridge the wires on the 2 pin plug and leave tucked out the way.
