|
Sadly, I must dispose of this car. I shall have to scrap it within two weeks unless Someone wants to take it on.
The good: Polar White Mk1 GTE. A243 PFC, spring 1984. All standard kit - no fancy additions. Generally in sound nick, though very scruffy at the moment (lack of garage space). Original engine, clutch, gearbox. Full set of little-worn tyres (GoodYear Eagle NCT 60, 185/60 R14 82H). 66504 genuine miles (yes, that's sixty-six thousand), so little used for its age. I think I have the fsh to show that.
The bad: currently not running. Used regularly until 1996; then in storage, sometimes garaged, sometimes not. Last started two years ago (and running o so sweet) but unused since. Can't therefore answer for state of running gear, etc. Therefore only suitable as a restoration project - which is what I had intended - or as breakage for spares.
If I had the time effort and money I would restore this delightful machine as a perfect original. I think I'd then have the youngest engined Mk1 GTE on the planet. Sadly time effort and money don't allow this. Perhaps someone else wants to take such a project on before I tell my local scrap merchant?

Hmm. Since scrap metal currently has value, I can probably get fifty quid for scrap. If everything was in perfect order I might expect about a grand for this car. So anywhere in between is negotiable. Because I have a pathetically romantic nature, I'd prefer to see it go to a loving restorer than to a scrapper. Still, better recycled than landfill !

I decided to post this on eBay, since it seemed a fairer way to judge the price. Short sale, ends sunday lunchtime. GWW |

Hmm, always thought the sideskirts were there to stop the air tumbling to the underside of the car which would've created lift but now creates a more stable platform at speed. Anyone quoting 140+ would have had to be going off a cliff or had a very inaccurate speedo as the engine will not pull the gearing for that |
