|
I have agreed a deal with steve on here to buy his 16V brake set up, and steve(GT) has very kindly agreed to help me do all the work next friday at his place. So the change will commence.
I am also looking to do a 16v engine upgrade as i feel my car looks good but lacks the performance, so am currently on the look out for engine, gbox, etc, i am watching a few bits on ebay at the mo,
I lack the skills and experience of most of you on here so am hoping for some help and advice to get the work done,
I can pay for help, i can travel, pay petrol, etc, whatever is needed,
also i have lots of Beer!!!
i am keen to get this done asap as i am moving to the south coast very soon and fear then it will be too difficult to arrange.
All help and advice appreciated, cheers |

I'll come down, let me know when. You mentioned the magic word...BEER
This is if you have an engine sorted by then, I don't think I'll be needed just to do the brake conversion.
Are we talking about Fri 1st July? if so then I can make it but if it's Fri 8th I might be late as I will more than likely have a job by then.
Anyway.....
Best thing you could do would be to make sure everythings there that you need. I'll make a list for you.
Ideally you will need an engine hoist on site, this will make things 100 times faster, although if there is more than 3 of us it's not that necessary.
You are going to need a Mk1 exhaust converted to fit the Mk2 downpipe, if you don't have one of these don't worry, I'll bring the Angle grinder and welder.
Make sure when you buy the 16v engine that it comes with everything needed. Loom, Spark plugs, HT leads etc...best to get some fresh oil and oil filter for it.
I'd suggest keeping your F16CR box on there, it's much more fun than the F20 and can take a kicking. I have banged mine up and down for ages now, including 1/4 mile drags etc and it's only just starting to come out of synchro in 3rd.
Wiring would be best left to Jacko, as he is master solderer....although I now know the combination of wires that need to be connected should he not be around
Make sure you bring some GUNK or other type of engine degreasant, it's a good time to clean everything down in the engine bay and touch up anywhere that was in accessable before.
I'm off to finish dismantling my car now..... _________________ The most hip hop mofo to ever come out of Halifax.....Jam Master Jay in d house!!! |

That'd be cool, let me know how you get on with finding an engine.
Don't worry about tools, I will bring them with me.
The list would be:-
You
Car
16V engine
Oil (5 litre Synthetic 5W/40) and oil filter
K&N filter, saves moding the airbox.
Manifold (important)
Engine loom
Decent gearbox, I'd use the F16 that should already be on yours.
Hire of a Engine crane, optional.
Some bits of wire, although again I think I have some of this kicking around
Exhaust already converted, if not I'll convert yours.
Tea, Coffee and beer....
Oh and a curry as well.
Thats about it, just make sure that you get the engine wiring loom and ECU with the engine without them were buggered for want of a word _________________ The most hip hop mofo to ever come out of Halifax.....Jam Master Jay in d house!!! |

Hey...we do our best
If by any miracle you do manage to source on, and you have a week remember, I'll catch the first Mk1 down that comes to hand... _________________ The most hip hop mofo to ever come out of Halifax.....Jam Master Jay in d house!!! |

Cheers Jas, just been looking on Ebay and it seems more sensible to me to buy a whole car as they are just as cheap if not cheaper, i.e. cavalier sri 16v- £150??? and you get everything you need then? what you reckon |

In principal I'd agree and, yes it is the cheaper and better option with regard to having everything therr.
...but if you are moving soon you'd have to arrange disposal of a whole car, it can get messy.
Trust me I have a dead Calibra Turbo on my drive, and I get evils off the missus on a daily basis because of it. _________________ The most hip hop mofo to ever come out of Halifax.....Jam Master Jay in d house!!! |

On that basis then a full car would be a lot better.
I'll have the brakes....before anyone else jumps on them!!! _________________ The most hip hop mofo to ever come out of Halifax.....Jam Master Jay in d house!!! |

Why would anyone jump on brakes? They have sharp edges so would hurt when you landed |
