I got my Mk1 Saloon (1196cc) for xMas, I know that they are quite rare so am probably going to try to revert to stock and use it as a show car... It needs a little work, will post pics in a bit, just some general paintwork and interior damage, not to mention the rocker cover gasket needs replacing due to an oil leak.
Am also going to be fitting a decent audio set up in there, may even add a car computer too...
So, keep it as original as possible yet also put in some high tech gear and see what happens... |

Given her a good clean up, got rid of all the rust and a respray where needed. Also fitted a 70W amp in the boot (don't need much tbh) and new CD player. General clean up makes her look a beauty, tho the bird sh$t is still a pain in the ass... never mind eh ill get some pics up soon |

Well, haven't updated this is quite some time...
As we know, I had a nice run in with the law during summer, resulting in a new nearside wing and front door, how nice of them...
It went in for MOT about 2 weeks ago now, failed quite nicely on emmissions test with a score of 1972/1200 :S so we decided that it may need some work...
Took the head off it and took the severed remains into the garage to lay on our chest-freezer for two days while i re-ground her valves multiple times... (ok, that sounds dodgy)
got the head back on to the block and put it all back together, started her up and the timing (we thought) was all over the place, it was backfiring THROUGH the carb and flying out the top...
checked each cylinder by pulling the leads, number 2 was the problem, so started to check the spark plugs, all fine, if not a bit carbon covered due to the choke...
after much faff, we took the rocker cover back off the top and to our disbelief one of the bolts (for the exhaust rocker arm on cylinder 2) had come completely undone. Re-tightened the bolt, rocker cover back on, started her up and got her up to normal tempereture, then adjusted the valve spacings.
She's now running better than I have ever heard her run before, except for the large hole in the exhaust which is getting sorted thanks to VERNON and his spares

"Loosening" the valves so we could get the circlips off the springs...
