well i'v popped out in it today even thou the exhaust wasn't done Shame on you

f*ck me it picks up quick, boosting to 1bar too, turns head when it dumps too laughing

when its lambda sensor hasn't got up to temp its fine but ones its hot i get a spot where is hesitates on acceleration, trying to work out if its just cos the boost is upsetting the map sensor or if the fuelling from 1.6 injectors is doing it, few guys on mig have turbo'd the 1.6 so off to ask there,

Things to sort:

Rev counter is way out, MK3 clocks required as i need speed sensor too.
exhaust
fit the mechanical boost gauge i just won on flebay as i don't trust the one i have

its really not wise running standard engine management, as it doesnt know theres a turbo there. its running lean when the turbos boosting. you really need an aftermarket mapable ecu to get the most potential from the motor

....or a crude 5th injector works just the same. You must also have an aftermarket retard system else she'll boost to infinty and beyond! Shocked Confused

when driving the air/fuel gauge shows .600-800mV so its not running lean, after i pass the hesastation bit it runs fine and boost all the way to 7k with 1bar boost no probs

tick over to say 3k fine
slight missfire etc for >4k rpm then back to normal
4-7k lots of boost and fuel meter shows .7-.8v (rich)

i dont have the speed sensor which this engine requires so that may confuse the engine as to whats going on as it cuts out at juctions lol

learnt a few things today,

1, 1.4 ecu works better than 1.6

2, ecu requires speed sensor to run properly (just got to find the mk3 clcoks i have)

3, 7.5:1 compression gives you no torque at all (7.5 bar on gauge when compression test was done which is exactly what we worked it out at)

4, 2 bar map sensor wont work as voltages are way wrong (but working on a little circuit to amplify the voltage the the correct range i require! handy knowing about electronics)

on the plus side, driving with a volt meter linked to different equipment (lambda, map, boost gauge sensor) helps you see just what's going on when you have issues

time to whip the head off the spare 1.4 and measure the volume of the head to work out what CR i'll end up with on the 1.3 block,

right,

now have the car very drivable,

took the dump valve off so a 20mm pipe is used as a waist gate/boost limiter

car boosts to .5 bar and dumps when throttle shuts,

found that the exhaust is restricting the turbo spool up time/air flow, coupled with the fact i had 1 bar boost all the time and the engine really needs .5 (7psi)

2 bar map sensor has wrong working voltage range to work direct to the ecu, so working on using the 3bar boost gauge map and increasing the voltage to match the ecu requirements using a little amp chip (2.1v at tickover and 4.9 and .6bar)

lambda gauge is showing .7 -.8 when .5 bar boost is there so mixture is spot on

1.6 ecu works better than the 1.4, better injector pulse time

still going to use the 1.6 head until the exhaust gets its middle and rear box's removed to test back pressure theory, still low on compression and once exhaust is done if its still not right i'll change the head for the 1.4 as its its got a smaller area than the 1.6 head combustion volume so that brings compression up to a calculated 8.5:1

i have a little vid of lambda gauge at .7 with .5 bar boost but cant get it off my phone as lost memory card adapter

right,

now i'v done more test and with 4psi car runs great until a certain point then air/fuel ratio drops and then .0v on lambda (very lean)

also actuator is set to just closing the waist gate with no tension on the spring and its still trying to boot to 10psi+ so new weaker actuator required,

so having proven A/R cant cope like i hoped it would i'v looked into 5th injectors.

being the tight arse that i am i'm building my own laughing

basically the plan is as follows:

firstly we need something to trigger the single point injector i have from an spi engine,

answer: ignition system from carb engine, camshaft sensor and ignition amplifier module,

fit the injector on the last bend befor the throttle

link fuel from fuel rail to injector,

fit a full a 3/4-full or "wide open throttle" switch and a pressure switch set to 3psi (this is the point it start to run lean)

link the two switches in series so the injector only get power when both are activated,

adjust fuel pressure to 5th injector to set a/f ratio up correctly
