wonder if anyone could help me? Im looking at buying a mk1 astra with a 2.0 turbo and the current owner says the turbo needs new seals and gave me a rough idea of cost in getting done, does anyone know what it will cost me to get this done in a garage?
cheers

It would be cheaper to change the whole turbo probably get a good recon one for £100-200 on the bay or other vaux forums _________________

i'll just say, if you cant change a turbo. dont buy a mk1 astra with a turbo engine. it will need constant attention. _________________ [Click here to pay ransom to view photos] |

most turbo warranties not worth paper they wrote on , all they tell u is u have an oil feed problem and its that causing turbo to fail not there turbo wot was faulty , i now always fit an inline filter into the turbo feed pipe just incase u have any contamination floating around in your oil |

It's not too difficult mate - at least it wasn't on my Calibra. You might need Girly hands changing one an Astra. The Turbo is part if the manifold.
10 nuts or so for the head studs, 2 or three for the downpipe an in and out for the water cooling, an in and out for oil and an in and out for air.
Probably a couple of hours for the proficient or an easy day for the first go.
I got a recon Turbo from Turbonetics I think about 15 years ago for £250. Apparently they spun them up to 200k rpm before sending them out - this was their "test" _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."

I was wondering weather to make my slam panel removable for easier access when I get round to fitting the turbo motor. Has anyone done this? _________________ There's no such thing as a stupid question... Just stupid people! |

It would be difficult considering how the top front panel is connected to the lower front end and the inner wings.
However, when you take the grill off, you can get your hands in quite easy once the rad is out.
Having just taken all that area apart, the top front panel is connected:
With tabs into the side of the inner wings
Either side at the top where the first wing bolt goes through
Underneath where the bottom of the headlight is
The midde tab under the bonnet catch to the valance ember
To two tabs, one on either chassis leg _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."
