Glad it's still in the club, looks like a solid car that! _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."

I'm glad you're not making a gte out of it, leave that to the original gtes. It's such a cool looking mk1 it only needs to be kept simple. _________________ [Click here to pay ransom to view photos] |

There is really only one thing that needs doing to it.
Small euro rims and lowering springs
Ok that 2 but you know what I mean _________________

Sunday update...
I promised the wife that I'd work on my beemer and get rid of it before even starting on lil red. So whilst she was away at a dog show all day, I decided to do little jobs that she wouldn't notice
Today's main job was to get rid of the aftermarket ICE
The last owner had the foresight not to cut the door panels or A pillar panels to accomodate the speakers. But unfortunately he had already cut a set a of 6 x 9 speakers into the pristine parcel shelf, of which he regretted.
So I took out everything...
I found a spare faded blue parcel self and matching shelf supports...
and gave then a spray with satin black and replaced the speaker covers with black ones.
now looks like this...
It doesn't look as lush as the original but it hasn't got big speaker hole in it. I had to change the shelf supports becaue the replacement shelf would have stuck out like a sore thumb.
I then put the Billy two knob non cassette radio back in.
I'll install a stealth system at a later date when I'm ready to use the car.
There was evidence of the doors previously having door bins...
so I put some in.
Some one had bumped it the back end of the car when it was left in a layby by the previous owner and they had bent the bumper, mounts and pressed in the back panel a little
So I got the wood and hammer out and gave it a little tap or two, treated and touched up the surface rust.
It will be getting a full lower respray when I get round to sorting out the sills but wanted to protect it for now.
this bumper is meant to be slightly convex and not concave
so I cleaned up a spare one and mounted it.
That's all for now. _________________ There's no such thing as a stupid question... Just stupid people! |

Lloyd, are the sills at the back on the passenger side gone?
I've got the remainder of a full sill I cut off.
I goes from near where the door shuts to the back... _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."

Both sides have gone Phil but from what I can feel, the inner sills are still there. Need further investigation but don't go binning them _________________ There's no such thing as a stupid question... Just stupid people! |

I will have both sides but the passenger side is the only one I've cut this bit off.
In my resto thread you can see how well these match up with the profile on my new quarter panels. _________________ "A fine example of how not to build a car..."

It apparently lowered 60mm but doesn't look like it due to those 15" steels with low profile tyres. I planning on refurbing some standard steels.
But I like the idea of having some euro style small wheels for the shows _________________ There's no such thing as a stupid question... Just stupid people! |

Phil - The drivers sill is a lot scabbier than the passenger. I might get away with your small section on one side but put a full sill on the other. I'll have to get the grinder out and see the extent of the rust. _________________ There's no such thing as a stupid question... Just stupid people! |
