I've got wireless. It's great. I've got my main pc on it it and the laptop too, can even use it out in the garden!
I bought mine through BT when I got the line installed, but you can get it in PC World etc. You need a wireless router, then as many receivers as you have computers. Easy enough to set up
Something like this

I have used Linksys at work, it replaces the normal ADSL modem and provides wireless networking.
We have shitty AOL Silver so we aren't really supposed to be able to use the internet on more than one computer, but somehow I have managed to get it on 3 so far...! _________________ The most hip hop mofo to ever come out of Halifax.....Jam Master Jay in d house!!! |

Scaremongering!!!
I have been using BT for well over a year without a problem! Their telephone support is also excellent.
NTL on the other hand........ let's not even go there!! _________________

I've installed 3 netgear dg834 wireless routers and havent had a problem, just plug em in, enter your adsl account details and bingo. They are all 54Mb stuff but you can get 18 now ( 802.11g+ ).
You need the router itself and network adapters for each machine.. you can get USB ones so you wont have to open up your desktop if you dont want to.
What I would suggest is you read up on MAC Address filtering and WEP before you install, just to prevent anyone a) jumping on your network and potentially having access to your machines and b) using your net connection.
If you wander around with a laptop its amazing how many unsecured networks are around... |
